I grew up on a farm in the Midwest and found relationships with animals, especially with horses and dogs, to be some of the most significant of my childhood and of my life. From owning my first pony when I was in second grade (thanks to my best friend Amy who shared her love of horses with me) to today, 40 plus years later, I continue to train, ride, and spend many hours a week at the horse barn caring for our little herd. Sharing them with others makes all the hard work worthwhile.
After graduating from college with a master’s degree in higher education, I was drawn (guilted:) into working in one of my family’s businesses. After five years, I made an offer to purchase it from my parents. I operate that business today, in a different way than in the past, but in a manner in which I can continue the tradition. I am grateful to the many customers who I have built friendships with over the course of my career. They have been the source of much joy and why I love what I do.
The greatest role I have is as a mother. It has been challenging at times, but the most rewarding of my life. My daughters have blossomed into talented, caring, thoughtful, and beautiful women. The love I have for animals has transferred to them and they, like me, find those relationships help make their lives more meaningful. I am so proud of them, they are wonderful humans. My daughters are featured in some of the Show Me the Baby podcast episodes. If you listen, you will get a glimpse of their personalities. Those episodes are some of my favorite because they went in unplanned directions and were great fun to record.
My interest in writing began in junior high sparked by two exceptional teachers, Mrs. K and Mr. L. Over the years, I had different ideas of what type of book I might write. I occasionally would take notes and create outlines of possibilities, but I never found anything that motivated me enough to complete a project. A few years ago, I started a list of the topics that I continually share with my children, my family, and many of my customers and friends. That list kept growing until I realized I had enough to compile a book to share.
Show Me the Baby is the culmination of my life to this point. There are topics that didn’t make it into this book and maybe someday there will be another, only time will tell. You will not find me on social media platforms. Reading my book and listening to the podcast shares a great deal about who I am and what is important to me. I hope these are sources of information and helpful guidance as you navigate your life. Thank you for joining me on this journey. This is my leap of faith. Here is the baby!
