in honor of breast cancer awareness month

Happy Thursday!

In honor of breast cancer awareness month this year, I decided to do something special.

My mother's best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple years ago. They caught it at a very late stage, and it hit close to home. She's like an aunt to me, someone who has been in my life since the day I was born, and we were all devastated. Thankfully, after an intense year of chemo treatments and a double mastectomy, my mother's best friend is cancer free today.

But there are others who aren't as lucky. This is an issue so many women must face on a daily basis. In fact, just found out the other day that my favorite art teacher from high school was diagnosed with breast cancer in August and is now on the long hard road to recovery. It happens so often it seems, but it doesn't dull the pain or anger--or fear.

As many of you know, I'm a proud feminist. I have such a heart for women and that's why I think this idea is so perfect. I would love to support a women's cause this month through my jewelry shop.

Which is why I made

the Lucy necklace

. A delicate and beautiful pink crystal necklace, exclusively made and available for breast cancer awareness month. Wear it in honor, buy it in memory, or gift it to a woman you know.

Lucy means light. Illumination, sight. A light at the end of a tunnel. A symbol of hope.

How will it work, you ask?

1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. So,

I will be donating $8 of every Lucy necklace I sell to the

Young Survival Coalition

 (YSC),

an organization dedicated to helping young women facing breast cancer today.

My goal is to raise $232.

A strange number, right? Well, 232,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. In order to reach my goal,

I need to sell 29 necklaces.

This is a huge goal. It's going to take a lot of support again, but I'm ready. If you know someone who has breast cancer, consider buying them a

Lucy necklace

. If you know a woman who has passed away from breast cancer, buy one in memory of her.

Even if you don't know someone who has battled breast cancer, the necklace is versatile enough to wear everyday--and you'll be helping to donate to an awesome cause!

Please, help me spread the word? Let's band together and support those we know with breast cancer. Let's remember those who have passed away, and let's help those now who are fighting today.
