a new year, a new list

happy new year's eve!

i love the new year because it means a new list

full of hearty resolutions.

but let's be honest.

i never really fulfill them. does anyone?

this year, i really wanted to make sure i chose attainable, focused goals

to give myself a better chance.

2012 has been an amazing year for me.

one full of growth and change, new beginnings and many lessons.

i transferred schools, switched my major, moved 1,000 miles away from home

live with strangers (who became like family) over the summer

while i worked an up-and-down job in the woods

made new friends

started a blog.

i can't even begin to say how thankful i am for everything i've experienced this year,

the good and the bad.

it has all helped me develop more into the person i want to be.

this year, i'd like to focus on a few things:

1. write more

i have a bad habit of procrastinating when it comes to my blogging--not just here, but for

ruffled feathers

. and with my creative writing....well, i haven't written in more than a month. i need to make time to write, because it's something important to me and it brings me happiness. i would like to set aside at least 30 minutes-1 hour a day for leisure writing. working on my writing dreams will help me achieve those bigger goals i have for the rest of this year--like finding an internship and a job.

2. promote health

the truth is, i hate working out. as much as i wish i didn't, it's just not something that comes easily to me. thankfully, i have a fast metabolism but i need to focus on improving my health. i resolve to exercise 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes each time. yoga, ballet, the elliptical, core workouts--maybe on rotation so i don't get bored and lose interest. i also need to drink more water--i barely drink a glass or two a day. i know, it's bad. and with dining hall food, my digestion is out of whack: i want to get plenty of fruits, veggies and protein in my diet. this may mean trips to the farmers market and spending a little bit more of my paycheck on groceries, but it's worth it.

3. be love

i want to be more patient and kind, especially. i want God's love to shine through me, and i lose this focus daily. i want to encourage more, listen better, nag less, and seek the positive in everything. i want to, as they say, do small things with great love. this will not only increase my happiness and health but help me develop better relationships with others. i need patience to help me stop the stress and find balance in my life so that i can better achieve my goals in all areas. i hope by showing love, i can be more satisfied in my life.

so, that's it. only 3 things, but i think they connect in a way that brings together the pieces of my life. each one has a bit more to it, but these simple phrases will be great reminders for me throughout the year. these are three things i can clearly attain without feeling overwhelmed by the sheer size of them. obviously, these aren't the only things i need to work on, but i feel that, by taking a few at a time, i can focus on them better and have the effects benefit many additional aspects of my life.

what's on your resolution list this year?

hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable new year :)

xo,

kristyn
